In this demonstration video, I’ll show you how to manage your feed in the existing feed library. We’ll begin by going to the manage feeds menu option on the main menu, and you’ll notice two options. The first being ‘edit a feed’, and ‘make a blend’. Then click on ‘edit the feed’.

You’ll see a message that pops up saying use blend to edit one feed’ so we don’t actually have a mechanism to edit individual feeds, other than the blend option. So let’s go ahead and open the blend window, and we’ll make a few changes here. Now we’re only going to be editing one feed, so I will change the number of feeds from 4 to 1. In this case we want to change the composition of one of our forages. We normally feed the calves in oat hay that is a little higher than the typical, so we’ll Scroll down to find oat hay mid-maturity which is the normal setting in the feed library.

And you’ll see the composition here, but our oat hay is consistently higher in protein and lower in NDF and ADF than the norm. And we find a little bit more starch, so we make changes to the composition and now we can simply change the category. In this case we need to make it forage, and we need to make sure to give this a unique name. So I’m going to call this oat hay mid-maturity home. now that will tell me that this is the oat hay used for my farm. Once I have the numbers, I need to enter, Of course, any number within the grams fed to populate the composition by a row. I can change this to be any number. It won’t change any of the characteristics here. Once I populated this total row, with the name, the category and the composition. Click OK and now my plan will be saved.

So, now if I go to the feeding program, and add another feed, I should be able to find that oat hay in the feed library; Called oat hay mid maturity home. So, here’s now the updated feed that is in the library and available for us.
Well, that will do it for this video. Feel free to visit other parts of the GPS knowledge base to learn more about using the program.
