Introduction
The average daily gain chart is positioned in the upper left-hand corner of the scientific screen. As depicted here, the X-axis represents the day of age, spanning from 14 to 112 days, while the Y-axis measures kilos of average daily gain per day.
The chart features two series: the actual average daily gain and the target average daily gain, which signifies our growth goal throughout the growing period. Adjustments to the target calculation can be made by modifying the settings and switches, offering options such as Gompertz, polynomial, and fixed. Currently, our selection is polynomial. Switching to fixed, for instance, alters the targets accordingly. Notably, the Y-axis recalibrates as adjustments are made. Previously set at 1.5, it now stands at 1.0.
Changes in the feeding program also influence the calculated average daily gain. For example, modifying the maximum for the calf grower in the latter part of the growth period results in adjustments to the average daily gain calculation.
Another feature of the average daily gain chart, and in fact all the charts within GPS, is the ability to copy data and the picture to the clipboard. If I left click on the chart, you’ll see a red flash and I now have access to the data. There’s the the average daily gain and the target average daily gain for each of the each of the days. If I right click, you’ll notice a green flash and now I will have access to the picture of the average daily gain, so these might be handy in in times when you need information for presentation.
